Objective and Contents of the Course

Course Objectives: The aims of this course are:

I. To encourage students to reflect on the meaning of law
II. Contributing to the development of conceptual thinking
III. To enable students to gain a critical and different perspective on the legal rules and the legal system by using the concepts and techniques of different disciplines.
Course Content: In this course, after the natural law theory is discussed with its basic claims and concepts, positivist views that emerged as a theory against natural law theory will be evaluated. Apart from these two basic theories, utilitarian legal theory, Marxist legal theory, feminist legal theory and legal realism will also be examined within the scope of the course.

Learning Outcomes

The students who have succeeded in this course;
1) Begin to think about the question of what is law.
2) Evaluate the relationship between law and justice.
3) Realizing that law has a social aspect, they gain the ability to evaluate the law within the social structure.
4) Learn different legal philosophy and sociology movements.
