Aim of the Programme

The four years (8 semesters) program is a Foundation Course providing the basis for further studies towards a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering. The students follow a core programme covering the basic science subjects related to mathematics, physics, chemistry and general engineering, including technical drawing, computer programming, as well as the basic courses of mechanical engineering, thermodynamics, statics, material science, strength of materials during years one and two. In third year, courses are given such as heat transfer, machine element design, control systems, project management and organization, which form the basis of mechanical engineering. In fourth year, students prepare a dissertation project by using their own creativity, knowledge and existing technology with the experience which is gained in balanced courses on theory, design and application. In addition, a wide range of elective courses are selected by the students in disciplines such as thermodynamics, manufacturing, fluid mechanics, energy and mechatronics in order to specialize them in certain subjects. Thus, students who graduate from our department can aim to pursue a career in one of the areas mentioned above. Students who graduate from the Department of Mechanical Engineering receive a balanced education in theory, design and application. In addition, during the period of study they acquire skills such as technical report writing and presentation, which are frequently used and have an important place in business life. During the study period, it is also given opportunities to our students to participate in the research activities of the department.
